Travel Stories

In the late ‘80s, the surfing world started to hear whispers of a new pristine surfing destination, in an island chain a few hundred miles south of Sri Lanka. Rumours of countless palm tree lined atolls with perfect pealing waves rapping round, had many a surfer studying their maps.

At the time, little did we realise that an Australian surfer from Maroubra was accidentally shipwrecked on one of these perfect points.
What seemed like a disaster at the time turned into paradise found and he never left, keeping the Maldives a secret to surfers for many years.

The Maldives itself only had its first tourist in the mid ‘70s, due to its strict Muslim culture.

In the early ‘90s Line Up Surf Australia travelled to this unique surfers water world, only to be blown away by its amazing waves, friendly locals and its captivating lifestyle.

Blessed with the cleanest water in the world, all year round warm climate and consistent waves to suit all levels of surfing, it’s no wonder that the Maldives is on most surfer’s lists of dream destinations.

Originally known for its diving, today, the Maldives is much more. World class resorts, arguably some of the world’s best diving and a stimulating culture.

Surprisingly despite the fact that it’s not a backpackers destination, Line Up Surf has developed holiday packages to the Maldives to suit most budgets.

Whether it’s live aboard boats or resort living, Line Up Surf can make a surfers dream come true.

Recently, Line Up Surf partnered Villa Resorts to develop the Maldives newest surfing resort, Paradise Island Resort. This five star island Resort, only 20 minutes from Male International Airport, has it all;

beautiful lagoons, swimming pool, luxurious villas and water bungalows, several bars and restaurants and one of the Maldive’s best water sport centres.

Our experienced Australian surf guides take you each day to many world class breaks only minutes away, including Jail Break Point, Sultans, Honkey’s and many others.

If cruising from break to break on a live aboard boat is more your style, Line Up Surf has a fleet of 7 vessels from basic to five star luxury, specialising in private charters for a minimum of four people.

This year, Line Up Surf introduced all girl surf charters on selected dates.
